Rideco

Launch of rider and passenger apps

Background

RideCo is a local startup that builds software to provide efficient ride sharing services as an alternative form of public transit. I was hired initially to complete a heuristic review of the ride search functionality of the desktop website. My role quickly grew into leading the user experience design of both the driver and passenger products for their pilot launch in partnership with the City of Milton and Metrolinx.

What I Did

  • Conducted a heuristic evaluation of the web booking experience and created annotated wireframes that included recommended improvements to the task flow
  • Observed drivers during ride alongs to understand the experience during alpha testing. I then facilitated user story mapping that informed and prioritized the rapid redesign of the driver application developed in the following sprint
  • Designed high fidelity passenger app wireframes and pair designed with the developer to quickly build a minimal product to be used in pilot testing
  • Completed contextual observation of the new product with real users to evaluate the Milton Metrolinx pilot. It informed iterative improvements to the product post-launch

Impact

Successfully launched both driver and passenger apps for the Milton Metrolinx pilot, leading to a successful pilot with measurable outcomes highlighted in the publishes case study. It ultimately has led to the ongoing growth of the solution globally today.
